Succulent red cherry red plum crushed rose petal and blood orange infuse the 2017 with striking layers of nuance that continue to develop over time. The Monteraponi 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva Il Campitello (with the black label) is an organic expression that shows some of the richness and the extra weight of this drought-prone vintage that resulted in darker more compact berries. The bouquet is framed by thick blackberry dried plum and prune. There is a point of dryness on the finish that underlines the tannins and the fruit ripeness. This wine reflects the ups and downs of the vintage and I am suggesting a shorter drinking window as a result.
