Silvio Nardi is made up of two different estates – Casale del Bosco, bought in 1950 and located west of Brunello, and Manachiara situated to the east.

The Casale del Bosco estate is comprised of five separate parcels – Casale itself, plus Cerralti, Sassi, Oria and Grancia.  The Manachiara property holds the flagship Manachiara vineyard, plus Colombaiolo and Pinzale.  Some of these vineyards are offered as separate bottlings. The regular Brunello bottling is a blend of the different sites and benefits from the differing exposures and soil types that make up the blend.

Aging for the first twelve months is in a mix of new and older French Allier barriques an the second year is in larger Slavonian oak botti. The crus get an additional six months in the smaller barrels and are held back the winery before release.

Wine Advocate: 95+ Points

Tenute Silvio Nardi farms some very interesting vineyard sites on the northern side of the appellation. Of these sites the Manachiara vineyard is very distinctive. Cool nighttime temperatures and diurnal shifts add to the sharpness and definition of this pretty wine. From a warm vintage the 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Vigneto Manachiara benefits from its cool microclimate. The bouquet opens to wild rose and cherry but there is a unique mineral tone that recalls slate or crushed granite. Subtle spice and milled white pepper give length and complexity to this beautifully balanced Brunello. This is a terrific wine from the lovely 2015 vintage.

Vinous: 95 Points

The nose is dark showing an alluring richness as black cherry airs out to give way to fresher notes of strawberry with hints of brown spices and lifting notes of wild brush and herbs. On the palate depths of black fruit and spice are carried on textures that feel like pure silk as dark spices and inner florals amass. The finish reveals the wine’s hulking structure yet it is balanced by zesty acids with lingering wild berry fruits saline minerals and a hint of citrus and spice. The 2015 single-vineyard Brunello di Montalcino Manachiara displays wonderful balance perfect oak management (it was aged in a combination of French Allier Barrique and botti) and is built for the long haul. (Drink between 2025-2040)
