From foudre the 2021 Fourchaumes is a little too marked by the wood. A touch of coconut with lactic notes but still the fruit comes up behind with some energy and a crisp fresh finish. Same in demi-muid (2017) which has less wood effect allowing the fruit to show much more elegance and a fine finish. If the latter component takes the upper hand this could merit a 4th star. Drink from 2024-2028.

Vinous: 90 Points

The 2021 Chablis Fourchaume 1er Cru aged half in clay amphora and half in used oak barrels has too much SO2 on the nose at the moment occluding the terroir expression. I suspect that will resolve with bottle age. The palate is ripe and offers more with touches of orange rind and pineapple fine acidity and a satisfyingly delineated finish. Please give this a couple of years to sort out the sulfur issue; it could turn into a fine Fourchaume. (Drink between 2026-2035)
